Sailors, Marines exude capabilities during rare TV appearance of country's top military officers

NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila - For the first time in Philippine television history, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), along with the Flag Officer In Command of the Philippine Navy (PN), and the Army and Air Force Commanding Generals, sat down in a one-on-four interview with Pia Hontiveros on Saturday, November 6 during the CNN Philippines' special presentation, "The Generals."

The latest military hardware in the arsenal of the AFP served as a static background during this special presentation.

For his part, Navy chief Vice Adm. Adeluis Bordado previews some of the Navy's latest and recently acquired assets, including the AW159 "Wildcat" anti-submarine helicopters and the ScanEagle Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).

The AW159 is a new twin-engine, multi-role, multi-mission helicopter designed specifically for maritime and utility operations. Primarily, it can perform Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) & Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) Operations.

On the other hand, the ScanEagle UAS is a small, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle primarily used for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR). It provides near real-time coverage and can be launched from both land and aboard the Navy’s capital ships.

The Philippine Marine Corps' Force Reconnaissance Group and the Naval Special Operations Command’s Naval Diving Group Explosive Ordnance Disposal were also showcased during the program.

The Philippine Navy is responsible for protecting the country’s strategic maritime interests. The PN is committed to maintaining a steady and impregnable naval force that is always ready and reliable amid the ongoing pandemic.
