According to rumors recently emerged in the press, Indonesia is interested in purchasing the second-hand Italian Navy aircraft carrier GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI.

According to RID, the interest is concrete and the operation has been discussed for some time. In the Indonesian Navy, the GARIBALDI could mainly assume the role of drone carrier. We recall, in fact, that recently the Turkish company Baykar and the Indonesian Republikorp signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for the production in Indonesia of 60 navalized drones TB-3 and 9 AKINCI for the needs of the local Forze Armate (FA).

The TB-3, which made its first take-off and landing from the Turkish aircraft carrier ANADOLU on November 19 , is a significantly improved evolution of the TB-2, is equipped with folding wings, a reinforced landing gear and would operate from the GARIBALDI using its ski jump to take off in better load conditions.

Relations between Indonesia and Italy are currently very good, as demonstrated, just to stay in the naval field, by the acquisition by the Indonesian Navy of the 2 PPA ex Marina Militare (MM), ITS RUGGIERO DI LAURIA and ITS MARCANTONIO COLONNA, renamed KRI BRAWIJAYA 320 and KRI PRABU SILIWANGI 321, which will be officially delivered during the year.
