JAPAN AND PH Military Engagement
On 18 December 2025, COL NAOTAKA SONADA, Chief G3, 12th Brigade, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), paid an official visit to the 1st Tank (MASIKAN) Battalion, Armor Division, Philippine Army.
The visit prominently featured a comprehensive showcase of the newly acquired Sabrah 105 mm Tank, highlighting the battalion’s enhanced armored capability and continued modernization efforts. Detailed briefings were conducted on the tank’s firepower, mobility, protection systems, advanced fire-control technology, and operational employment in contemporary armored warfare.
The engagement was further enriched as LTC REYNALDO L MINA ARM (GSC) PA personally joined the delegation, actively participating in the discussions and interactions. His presence underscored the command’s commitment to professional exchange, capability development, and strengthening international military cooperation.
The visit provided an excellent platform for exchanging insights on armored tactics, force modernization, and interoperability, reinforcing mutual respect and understanding between the two forces.
Such meaningful engagements continue to strengthen defense relations and foster enduring military-to-military ties between the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and the 1st Tank Battalion, Armor Division, Philippine Army.
