Kazakhstan Launches Production of Barys-A 8x8 Amphibious Armored Vehicles as Derivative of Terrex 2

From 2025, the Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering defense plant in Astana will begin serial production of the Terrex 2 — Barys-A 8×8 multi-purpose amphibious combat vehicle. This model will become a new stage in the development of Kazakhstani armored vehicles, meeting the modern requirements of the armed forces, Lada.kz reports with reference to Forbes.kz

Presentation for the Minister of Defense
On April 4, in Astana, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel General Ruslan Zhaksylykov, familiarized himself with the technical characteristics of the vehicle and highly appreciated its combat potential. He emphasized that the head of state, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, set the task for the defense department to equip the army with advanced models of equipment.


Production and international cooperation
The Terrex 2 — Barys-A 8×8 will be manufactured by Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering. The technologies and design documentation were transferred to the Kazakh side by the Singaporean company ST Engineering Land Systems under an agreement concluded in November 2024.

The vehicle is based on the Terrex 2 model , which has been in service with the Singapore Army since 2010. The Kazakhstani version will be adapted to local climatic and geographical conditions.

Potential of Kazakhstani production
Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering is a private company, 65% of which belongs to Kazakh businessman Aibek Barys and 35% to South African Paramount Group. The company produces armored vehicles, combat modules, weapons systems and technical equipment for the army.


As of 2025, the plant's production capacity will allow it to produce up to 500 armored vehicles per year , with localization of production reaching 72% . The company has also received the right to modernize the Terrex 2 - Barys-A 8×8 to meet specific customer requirements.
