The Stealers Wheel classic has long been associated with a dual Replenishment at Sea (RAS) operations, where a tanker replenishes two ships simultaneously while positioned between them. The lyric is a light-hearted nod to the formation and is commonly played over a tanker's speakers during double RAS evolutions.
During the sea phase of Exercise RIMPAC off Hawaii this week, HMNZS Aotearoa conducted a dual RAS with the Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Sydney and the Royal Canadian Navy's HMCS Regina.
A complex and highly skilled manoeuvre, a dual RAS demands precision, teamwork and expert ship-handling from all three vessels and their ship's companies.
Thirty nations, 30 ships and 30,000 personnel are taking part in RIMPAC, the world's largest maritime warfare training exercise, working together to help ensure the safety of vital sea lanes and security across the world's oceans.
