The Australian Army's 16th Aviation Brigade has welcomed its first two AH-64E Apache Attack Helicopters at RAAF Base Townsville, following successful test flights in Mesa, Arizona.

Under Project Land 4503, Defence is acquiring 29 Apaches, with the full fleet expected to be delivered by 2029.

The AH-64E will replace the Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter, bringing significant capability improvements that will enhance the lethality and tempo of both land and amphibious manoeuvres.

Australian Army personnel have been undertaking training in the US and the UK, with a number of air and ground crew already qualified on the Apache.
