On 22 April 2025, The Coast Guard Aviation Command (CGAvCom) proudly welcomed the newest addition to its aviation fleet—the PCG 829 BN Islander—during a formal turnover and commissioning ceremony held at H,CGAvCom.
Gracing the event were the Presidential Adviser on Legislative Affairs and Head of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office, The Honorable Secretary Mark Llandro L. Mendoza, and the Commandant, Philippine Coast Guard, Adm Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, underscoring the significance of this milestone for maritime law enforcement and national security.
The PCG 829 BN Islander was officially donated to the Philippine Coast Guard through the initiative and support of Secretary Mark Llandro L. Mendoza, whose invaluable efforts made this critical acquisition possible. The aircraft was transferred from Fliteline Airways, which ensured that it underwent rigorous maintenance, inspection, and overhaul procedures prior to the handover. These measures guarantee the aircraft’s airworthiness and operational readiness for the wide range of missions entrusted to the PCG.
Now under the operation of CGAvCom, the PCG 829 BN Islander is set to perform a critical role in enhancing Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), particularly amid rising tensions in disputed maritime zones. The aircraft will be vital in supporting missions such as maritime patrol, search and rescue operations, disaster response, medical evacuation, and the transportation of personnel and supplies.
This commissioning reflects the Coast Guard Aviation Command’s steadfast commitment to readiness, teamwork, and innovation, fully aligned with the Philippine Coast Guard’s vision of becoming a world-class guardian of the sea. The aircraft stands as a symbol of national pride and responsibility—an embodiment of the trust and expectations placed upon Coast Guard aviators and aircrew by the more than 114.9 million Filipinos they are sworn to serve. While this aircraft may be but a spark, from this spark will come the fire of greater capability, deeper responsibility, and a stronger unity in purpose.
As this state-owned asset joins the fleet, it serves as a powerful reminder that the aircraft is more than a tool—it is an instrument of peace, security, and service. It carries the hopes of the Filipino people and symbolizes the collective effort to safeguard the nation’s vast maritime domain. In the hands of the dedicated personnel of CGAvCom, it is a beacon of our enduring pledge to protect our seas and our people—today and for generations to come.
The Commander of the Coast Guard Aviation Command, Como John B. Esplana PCG, extends his heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support in advancing the Command’s mission in maritime operations.
