Russia Completes Delivery of Six Su-30SME Fighters to Myanmar Air Force

TSAMTO -- Russia has fulfilled the contract to supply the Myanmar Air Force with all six Su-30SME multirole fighters ordered under the 2018 contract.

According to a press release from the Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, the Air Force held an annual ceremony on December 15 at the Aviation School at Meiktila Air Base in Mandalay, where newly acquired aircraft, including two Su-30SMEs, were officially put into operation. The ceremony to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Myanmar Air Force was opened by the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, General Min Aung Hlaing.


Let us recall that the agreement on the delivery of six Su-30SME fighters was reached during the visit of Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu to Myanmar on January 20-21, 2018. The contract value is estimated at $400 million.

The first two vehicles arrived in Myanmar in July 2022. The official acceptance ceremony for the first pair (numbers 1904 and 1905) took place on December 15, 2022, and for the next two (numbers 1906 and 1907) on December 15, 2023.
