On March 1, 2024, Admiral Adung Phan-iam, commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy; Rear Admiral Christopher D. Stone, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Seven, Task Force 76, Amphibious Force of the United States Navy; and Rear Admiral Cho Choong-Ho, commander of Mine/Amphibious Flotilla Five of the Republic of Korea, visited the AMPHIBEX-JFEO (Amphibious Exercise-Joint Forcible Entry Operation) which is part of the international combined exercise Cobra Gold 2024 at the Naval Training Range No. 15, Hat Yao, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, on 1 March 2024.
The main force has been organized from the Royal Thai Marine Corps (RTMC), including the AAV7A1 RAM/RS amphibious vehicle that has been modernized by the Thai company Chaiseri and the Ukrainian BTR-3E1 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle that is still in use, can operate even though the producing country has been at war for many years.
Royal Thai Naval Air Division (RTNAD), such as the 1st type targeting surveillance aircraft, 1st Battalion Battalion, Cessna T-337 Skymaster, Squadron 103, Wing 1, and the 1st type anti-submarine helicopter Sikorsky SH-60B Seahawk, Squadron 2, Royal Naval Aviation Unit Chakri Naruebet.
The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) brings a large amphibious landing craft, the HTMS Sichang series, HTMS Surin royal ship and a large troop transport ship, the HTMS Mannok series. Royal ship HTMS Mannai deployed with the San Antonio-class amphibious transport docks, the LPD-25 floating dock landing craft USS Somerset, and the LCAC air cushion vehicle of the United States Navy (USN).
Large Cheon Wang Bong-class amphibious landing craft LST-689 ROKS No Jeok Bong, Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) with KAAV amphibious vehicle and K55A1 belt-propelled self-propelled artillery, Republic of Korea Marine Corps (ROKMC) and the United States Marine Corps (USMC) deploys LAV-25 amphibious wheeled armored vehicles and Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion heavy transport helicopters, a Marine medium-sized fixed wing aircraft squadron VMM-165 (Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 165).
The CH-53E heavy transport helicopter, VMM-165 Squadron, was deployed to train in place of the Bell-Boeing MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft that were ordered to ground all types of flights worldwide after the CV-22B accident. The United States Air Force (USAF) crashed in Japan on 28 November 2023.
The most recent Cobra Gold 2024 amphibious operations training also saw air support from Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the 229th Aviation Regiment, 16th CAB (Combat Aviation Brigade of the US Army) for the first time from before saw the Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter of the US Marine Corps.
Including simulating air support from fighter aircraft F-16A/B, Squadron 103, Wing 1, Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) and Lockheed Martin F-16C Block 40, 35th Fighter Squadron and 80th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Wing, Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), Air Force United States as well.
