After painting the number, the 8021 ship is being tested in Seattle, USA, ready to be brought home to serve in the Vietnam Coast Guard.

The US newspaper My Edmonds News has just published the latest images of the John Midgett (WHEC 726) coast guard ship , which has been painted with the number and symbol of the Vietnam Coast Guard.

Accordingly, the ship John Midgett (WHEC 726) will carry hull number 8021, the Vietnamese flag has also been painted on the chimney of this coast guard ship.

Currently, the 8021 Coast Guard ship is said to be in the process of trial run, the test run of the 8021 is conducted by the US in Elliott Bay and Puget Sound, in Washington state.

The ship John Midgett (WHEC 726) was launched by the US in 1971 and was commissioned in March 1972. This was the last ship built by the US Navy in the Hamilton class.

According to the original design, the John Midgett (WHEC 726) was 115 meters long, 13 meters wide and had a draft of 5.5 meters.

This coast guard vessel is capable of moving at a maximum speed of 29 knots - equivalent to 54 km/h. At fuel-efficient speeds, the ship can travel 12 knots.

Under ideal conditions, the John Midgett (WHEC 726) would have a maximum range of up to 20,000 km.

This last Hamilton-class coast guard vessel has a maximum fuel reserve of 810,000 liters, 64,000 liters of fresh water and can operate at sea for up to 45 days.

The full staff of the ship includes 184 people, including 160 crew members and 24 commanding officers.

Weapons equipped on board include 12.7mm machine gun mounts, 76mm Otobreda cannon and Phalanx speed cannon.

The US side modified the John Midgett (WHEC 726) coast guard ship, removed the Phalanx high-speed artillery system before handing it over to the Vietnamese side.

Currently, the Vietnam Coast Guard is in possession of the ship CSB-8020, also of the Hamilton class, with a maximum displacement of 3250 tons.

Despite having a displacement of up to 3250 tons, the US coast guard ships, when converted into Vietnamese coast guard ships, are still not the largest ships that our forces own. Currently, the Vietnam Coast Guard ship has the largest size, including DN 4000, with a maximum displacement of 4000 tons designed by Vietnam.

The addition of large patrol boats will help the Vietnam Coast Guard strengthen its long-term activities at sea, ensuring maritime security of our country's waters in the East Sea.

The John Midgett patrol boat was scraped off the old paint by the US side in March to paint the number, the national flag of Vietnam, before handing it over to us.
