PH, Germany Ink Lease Deal for Clark Aviation Maintenance Facility

MANILA – The Philippines and Germany on Tuesday signed an aviation partnership aimed at developing a major aircraft maintenance facility at Clark International Airport in Pampanga.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier witnessed the presentation and exchange of the signed agreement in a ceremony held at Malacañan Palace in Manila after their bilateral meeting.

The lease agreement was signed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, the Luzon International Premier Airport Development Corporation, and Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP).

The agreement covers a 157,000-square-meter site within the Clark airport complex.

The area will be used for the development of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) support facility for aircraft.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines is one of the country’s largest aircraft maintenance providers and a joint venture involving Germany’s Lufthansa Technik.

The project supports Clark’s goal of becoming a major aviation and aerospace hub in Southeast Asia, attracting high-value investments and jobs.

LTP earlier expressed its intent to invest around USD400 million in a Clark MRO complex capable of servicing large aircraft, including the Airbus A380.

Germany is the Philippines’ largest trading and investment partner within the European Union, while Lufthansa Technik is one of the most prominent German investors operating in the country.

Steinmeier’s state visit to the Philippines signals the two nations’ commitment to deepening their long-standing friendship based on mutual respect, shared values, and cooperation.

The last visit by a German president to the Philippines was in 1963.
