NFEM Receives Donated Speedboat from PMFTC, Bolstering Maritime Security Operations

Panacan, Davao City — The Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) formally received a donated speedboat from Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation (PMFTC) during a Turnover and Blessing Ceremony held at Naval Station Felix Apolinario Beach Park on April 14, 2026. The acquisition strengthens the unit’s capability to carry out its maritime security and law enforcement mandates.

The ceremony commenced with the formal turnover and signing of the Deed of Donation, symbolizing the official transfer of the vessel from PMFTC to NFEM. This was followed by a blessing ceremony, invoking safety, protection, and operational success for the speedboat and its future missions.

The donated asset is a high-speed patrol boat designed for maritime security operations. It is a center-console type vessel with a full hardtop, measuring approximately 42 feet in length and powered by twin high-horsepower outboard engines. Built for speed and maneuverability, it will enhance NFEM’s capability in coastal patrol, law enforcement support, and rapid maritime response operations.

In his remarks, Mr. Jerel Palomata, Manager for Local Regulatory and Enforcement, Corporate Affairs of PMFTC, underscored the company’s recognition of the Philippine Navy’s unwavering commitment to duty. He highlighted the dedication, sacrifices, and steadfast service of naval personnel in safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain. He noted that the donation of the speedboat represents PMFTC’s tangible expression of gratitude and continued support for the Navy’s vital role in ensuring security and stability in the region.

In response, Commodore Ireneo D. Battung PN, Commander of NFEM, expressed his sincere appreciation to PMFTC for its generosity and sustained partnership with the Philippine Navy, particularly with Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao and Joint Task Force Sinaya. He emphasized that the newly acquired speedboat will significantly enhance the unit’s operational capability, especially in deterring illegal maritime activities such as smuggling within the Eastern Mindanao seaboard. He also reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to maximizing the use of the asset in support of its mission to secure the maritime environment.

The addition of this capability further strengthens Joint Task Force Sinaya’s capacity to conduct maritime security operations, patrols, search and rescue missions, and rapid response efforts across the Eastern Mindanao area. Moreover, it reflects the strong collaboration between the Command and its stakeholders, underscoring a shared commitment to protecting the nation’s maritime domain.
