Malaysia Military Review announced the launch of Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil, the first ship of its class built under the LMS Batch 2 program. With STM as the main contractor, the project aims for the corvette to be delivered to Malaysia by the end of 2027.
STM commenced work in December 2024 on the construction of three corvettes for the Royal Malaysian Navy under the LMS Batch-2 program. In this project, with STM as the main contractor, the steel cutting ceremony for the corvettes was held at the Istanbul Maritime Inc. shipyard this month.
Following the steel cutting ceremony, the keel-laying ceremony for the corvette blocks was also held at Istanbul Maritime Inc. Shipyard on April 8th. The ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Defence, Datuk Lokman Hakim bin Ali, the Commander of the Royal Malaysian Navy, Admiral (ADM) Datuk Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, and the Deputy General Manager of STM Naval Systems, Bülent Soydal.
