The Royal Thai Navy held a keel laying ceremony for a new tugboat with a capacity of no less than 3,000 horsepower at the shipyard of Asian Marine Services Public Company Limited (ASIMAR: Asian Marine Service PCL) in Laem Pha Pha Subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province on 21 November 2025, which took place one day after Royal Thai Navy Day 2025 on 20 November 2025.

The Royal Thai Navy is in the process of procuring new tugboats to replace its aging fleet of tugboats, some of which have already been decommissioned, to ensure sufficient numbers are available. Recently, ASIMAR Shipyard Thailand commissioned and delivered the third medium-duty tugboat of the HTMS Panyi class, HTMS Tachai (859), on August 21, 2023.

The Amphibious and Combat Support Service Squadron (ACSSS) of the Royal Thai Fleet (RTF) requires a total of eight tugboats, which are currently in service. These include two tugboats from the HTMS Samesarn class, HTMS Samesarn (855) and HTMS Raet (856), and three tugboats from the HTMS Panyi class, HTMS Panyi (857), HTMS Lipe (858), and HTMS Tachai.
