The Philippine Army has reportedly received the third batch of Sabra ASCOD 2 Light Tanks, further advancing the country's ongoing defense modernization efforts
Along with the newly delivered tanks, armored recovery vehicles (ARVs) based on the ASCOD 2 platform have also arrived, providing crucial battlefield support and recovery capabilities.
This delivery is part of a broader acquisition agreement between the Philippines and Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems in partnership with General Dynamics European Land Systems GDELS the manufacturer of the ASCOD platform.
While the arrival of the tracked units marks a significant step forward, it remains unclear whether the Philippine Army will also receive the wheeled variant of the fire support vehicle FSV a topic of much speculation among defense observers. So far, there has been no official confirmation regarding this variant.
This third batch is expected to further strengthen the Philippine Army's
armored capabilities and support its mission to safeguard national
sovereignty and internal security.
The Sabra ASCOD 2 light tanks are equipped with a 105 mm main gun and feature advanced targeting, communication, and battlefield awareness systems, designed to deliver high firepower and mobility across diverse terrain
The accompanying ARVs will play a vital role in recovering and repairing damaged armored vehicles during combat operations, enhancing the sustainability of mechanized forces in the field.
