The Blue Strike 2025 Joint Exercise between the Royal Thai Navy and the Chinese PLA Navy

In the Blue Strike 2025 the Royal Thai Navy's training fleet include HTMS Angthong 791, HTMS Prachuap Khiri Khan 552, HTMS Chao Phraya 455, and HTMS Kraburi 457, while the Chinese PLA Navy included the Type 071 landing platform dock LPD-985 Qilian Shan, Type 726A LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushioned), Type 052D class destroyer DDG-172 Kunming, Type 054A class frigate FFG-536 Xuchang while the Royal Thai Marines and Chinese PLA  Marines train with Z-8 maritime helicopters and Type 08 8x8 wheeled Infantry Fighting Vehicle (all photos: Royal Thai Navy)

Between March 26 and April 2, 2025, the Royal Thai Navy and the  People's Liberation Army Navy conducted a combined naval and marine tactical operation exercise in the Blue Strike 2025 exercise, which was divided into two parts Harbour Phase and Sea Phase.


Harbour Phase
Training at Nanting Camp and Nanshan Island, Zhanjiang City, People's Republic of China. This is a training for the naval forces, including the exchange of knowledge of experts in various naval operations, tactical transformation, development of three-dimensional defense capabilities, and disaster relief. 


For the Marine Corps training, it includes infantry and armored infantry tactics training, nuclear, biological, and chemical defense, search and counter-explosives, exchange of knowledge between experts in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for intelligence gathering, counter-unmanned aerial vehicles, and the use and maintenance of VN16 vehicles.


Sea Phase
Training in the sea area of ​​Nanshan Island, Zhanjiang City, People's Republic of China. This includes training of naval forces, including formation and tactical photography training, surface defense training, submarine rescue training, anti-aircraft training, search and rescue training, anti-submarine training, and diving to search and identify suspicious objects underwater.


For training of Marines, it includes training to move personnel to shore in disaster relief missions.


This joint exercise is a good opportunity for both sides to exchange military knowledge and technology, as well as new tactics, which will benefit the future development of the navies of both countries, as well as demonstrate the potential and readiness of the Chinese navy and the People's Liberation Army Navy in joint operations, which will help promote regional security and the image of both countries in the international arena, as well as build confidence and safety for the people.
