MESA, Arizona -- The first AH-64E Apache attack reconnaissance helicopter for the Australian Army has entered final assembly on the Boeing [NYSE: BA] production line in Mesa, Arizona.
Designated AT001, the aircraft will undergo structural, electrical wiring, major sub-assembly and mechanical installation in final assembly before entering flight testing mid-year. Boeing’s factory has produced more than 2,800 Apache helicopters to date.
“The induction of the Australian Army’s first E-model Apache into final assembly marks the beginning of a new era for Australia’s defence and industrial capabilities,” said Christina Upah, vice president of Boeing Attack Helicopter Programs.
“We’re proud to build and sustain the world’s most advanced, proven attack reconnaissance helicopter together with Australia, as we work to strengthen their fleet and deliver their first Apaches later this year.”
The Australian Apache fleet will be constructed with a number of parts manufactured by Australian companies(opens in a new tab), including Cablex wire harnesses and electrical panels, Axiom Precision Manufacturing avionics bay shelving and other machined assemblies, Ferra vertical spar boxes, and Mincham composites and fairings.
The first four Australian Apaches are scheduled for delivery in late 2025.
Boeing Defence Australia will assist the Australian Army in sustaining the Australian Apache fleet under an initial seven-year support contract(opens in a new tab). More than 230 new roles will be created in Queensland covering maintenance, engineering, aircrew and maintainer training, and logistics.
The Australian Army has ordered 29 AH-64E Apaches, which will be based in Townsville, North Queensland.
