PCG Receives 55-Meter Vessel from Red Cross
To further strengthen its capacity to perform humanitarian missions under the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has received a 55-meter vessel from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) yesterday, 30 January 2025.
PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, and PRC Chairman Richard Juico Gordon graced the deed of donation signing ceremony at the PRC National Headquarters in Mandaluyong City.
According to Admiral Gavan, the vessel, M/V Amazing Grace, shall serve as a critical asset in delivering medical and humanitarian aid to remote communities, particularly in coastal areas. Moreover, this asset shall strengthen the PCG’s capacity to respond to emergencies, natural disasters and public health crisis.
"We are very fortunate that the red cross has recognized that transferring a key asset of the PRC to the Coast Guard would somehow enable both of us to put more value to this asset. Rest assured that the coast guard will do everything we can to put that value both of us desires." Admiral Gavan furthered.
In his speech, PRC Chairman Gordon emphasized the humanitarian principles guiding their actions and expresses pride in donating the vessel to the PCG. He shared his hope for the vessel to be used effectively, particularly for missions to remote areas like Pagasa Island.
Also present during the ceremony were the PCG Acting Deputy Commandant for Administration and Chief of Coast Guard Staff, Rear Admiral Hostillo Arturo Cornelio; Commander CGFLEET Commodore Arnaldo Lim PCG and other senior officers of PCG.
