According to an interview with an Air Force Commander, it was revealed that the C-130H engines that have been in use for more than 40 years will be upgraded to be longer lasting, more fuel efficient, and improve flight performance, such as flying farther. Although it has not been clearly specified, the features mentioned are quite clear that the T56 engine will be upgraded to the standard T56 3.5 series, but it is not clear whether the rotor will be changed to NP2000 to make it more economical. The Center Wing Box has not changed and is not expected to have plans.
The upgrade to the C-130 engine that Rolls-Royce is offering, will allow the older engine to be more efficient and extend its life. The Center Wing Box is a body structure attached to the wing which functions to support the weight of the engine while in the air, and there is a risk of cracking if the work is used too long and too low. Replacing the Center Wing Box will extend the structural life of the C-130 again.
