RTAF Cancels for One SHORAD System Bidding

Directorate of Operations, Royal Thai Air Force announced to cancel the bidding for one of Short-Range Air-Defence (SHORAD) system on 2 August 2021, no further details provided but types of SHORAD system likely compared to MBDA Land Ceptor, Diehl IRIS-T SLS or Rafael SPYDER-SR.

Royal Thai Air Force announced on August 2, 2021, in the Thai Government Procurement system, about the cancellation of the procurement project for short-range air defense systems, amounting to 1 system, amounting to 939,999,996. 90 baht ($28,101,647.71).

There are no further details on the short-range air defense system the Royal Thai Air Force needs. But it is most likely a close-range surface-to-air missile system that is comparable to the MBDA Land Ceptor (CAMM) UK, Germany's Diehl IRIS-T SLS or Israel's Rafael SPYDER-SR.

The first solicitation announcement referenced two median price sources, Thai Datagate and Thai RV Connex, but in the second solicitation announcement, there were three, Datagate, Thai Defense Company, and Thai Chankasem International, with RV Connex being eliminated.

Such companies act as distributors for foreign countries, such as RV Connex representing arms importers from Europe such as Sweden and Germany, Datagate from Russia, Ukraine and Europe such as the United Kingdom, United Defense from France and Chankasem International from China, etc.

The reason for the change in the Royal Thai Air Force's short-range air defense system is not yet known.
