BOLKIAH GARRISON – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, today witnessed the Hikmat Bersatu VI/2021 (HB VI) Exercise.


Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.


Upon arrival at Bolkiah Garrison, His Majesty was welcomed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Defence II; and Major General (Udara) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commander. His Majesty was then introduced to the Heads of the exercise’s organising team.


His Majesty was then invited to visit the Joint Operations Centre’s Briefing Room in which the RBAF Commander presented his welcoming address and subsequently followed with the operational briefing presented by Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak bin Haji Abd. Kadir, RBAF Joint Force Commander.


After the briefing, His Majesty toured the Joint Operations Centre and its components and then boarded the Blackhawk S70i to proceed to the Fighting In Built Up Areas (FIBUA) Village at Penanjong Garrison.


On his arrival to Penanjong Garrison’s landing pad, His Majesty was greeted by Colonel (U) Haji Haszahaidi bin Haji Ahmad Daud, Commandant of the Training Institute RBAF before proceeding to the FIBUA Village.


On arriving at the FIBUA Village, His Majesty was greeted by Colonel Azman bin Haji Bangkol, Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) and was then briefed by Lieutenant Colonel Haji Alimin bin Haji Subohi, Commanding Officer of Third Battalion, RBLF before witnessing a joint operation conducted by the RBLF and the Special Force Regiment (SFR), combined with support from the British Forces Brunei. This operation demonstrated the RBAF’s ability to conduct combined operations in a range of complex environments as the Forces advanced into an urban setting.


Moving from Penanjong Garrison, His Majesty then boarded Blackhawk S70i and was flown to KDB DARUTTAQWA to witness a maritime interdiction operation. Upon his arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Captain Khairil Haji Abdul Rahman, Fleet Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN). His Majesty then witnessed the operation in which His Royal Highness 920 Major (Udara) Prince ‘Abdul Mateen was a member of the team conducting a hostage rescue operation on a hijacked ship.


His Majesty then boarded the Blackhawk S70i to proceed to Muara Naval base where His Majesty’s arrival was greeted by Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, Deputy Commander RBN.


At the end of the visit, His Majesty attended a luncheon with the Ministry of Defence and RBAF senior officials at Royal Brunei Navy Officers’ Mess. After the luncheon, His Majesty was presented with a ‘pesambah’, followed by the signing of the Royal Parchment and a group photograph session.


HB VI/2021 Exercise, focuses on a scenario centred on the military’s contribution to tackling Non-Traditional Security threats like terrorism and illegal activities of organised crime. The exercise commenced on 26 July 2021 and is scheduled to end on 31 July 2021. This exercise is also assisted by the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Gurkha Reserve Unit and Second Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles.
