Over the past decade the People's Army of Vietnam developed homebuilt self-propelled howitzers using leftover M101 self-propelled guns combined with the chassis of Ural trucks & M548 tracked cargo carriers.

It would be remembered that after the initial success of the Ural model in 2017 it was announced research would be conducted into developing a 122mm version for the People's Army of Vietnam.

Move forward to today and this planned 122mm SPG still hasn't materialized...but thanks to recent updates from internal sources it seems progress was made with another artillery caliber used by the PAVN that is also larger than 105mm.

It's still a little too early for us to show it but we'll let our audience guess. Knowing how Vietnamese military secrecy works you'll likely see this on state-owned media such as QPVN within the next month or two.

For now heres a look at all the previous SPGs that were developed using the PAVN's existing assets.
