The DTI7 small arms research and development project in collaboration between the Defense Technology Institute of Thailand and Thai KHT Firearms is part of the efforts to support the Thai domestic security industry.
The DTI7 is a short-stroke gas piston powered machine gun with a separate piston and pushrod and a trifold frame. The shorter 7inch caliber rifles make the DTI7 a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW).
It can be seen that the DTI7 machine gun in its design is different from the NARAC556 rifle family of Thai NARAC ARMS INDUSTRY and Pathumwan Institute of Technology that came out as an Individual Weapon for units used. Combat force which has been placed into direct service of the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defense, Ministry of Defense, Thailand in the name of the MOD 963 rifle family.
NARAC556 uses the same short stroke gas piston system as DTI7 but differs in that the piston rod is the same piece. Including the barrel length of the MOD 963 rifles and the MOD 963 AR assault rifles at 20 "and 14.5" respectively, they can be equipped with a 40mm grenade launcher, etc.
